DeMeco met with first year head coach Rod Marinelli of the Detroit Lions on Tuesday in what has been a busy week leading up to the NFL Draft on April 29. Detroit is the third team Ryans has visited at team headquarters. Earlier he made the trip to New England before venturing to Minnesota last Friday. While the interview process requires a lot of travel, DeMeco says the treatment he's received by team personnel has made it easier. "I really appreciate them being honest." Ryans explains, "They tell you how you would fit into their system, tell you what their number one priority is in the draft and show you how you could fit in if you're still on the board. They don't fill you up with false promises."
Detroit has the ninth pick overall in this year's NFL Draft and is expected to fill some needs on the defensive side of the ball at linebacker and safety. After the trip to Detroit and a brief return home on Tuesday night, DeMeco is off to the nation's capital on Wednesday. He'll meet with head coach Joe Gibbs who is working on filling a linebacker spot with the apparent departure of Levar Arrington. Washington's first pick of the draft is not slated until the second round (53rd overall), but it has been widely speculated that the Redskins are trying to trade themselves into a first round or earlier second round position. DeMeco will return home to Bessemer next week to watch the draft with family and friends. |
