BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A week filled with the rat race of completing questionnaires and interviews for NFL teams came to an end yesterday as the 58th Annual Senior Bowl capped the all-star week for Demeco. In a game that was closer than the 31-14 final score indicated, Demeco racked up 3 tackles for the South squad. But the Senior Bowl was more about the week leading up to the game and not the game itself.
“Playing in the Senior Bowl was a great experience, said Demeco, It was fun meeting all the great players from around the country. With all the meetings we had it was great to get on the field. Meeting all the coaches you see on Sunday was really wild.” Wild is a great way of putting the non-stop team meetings, questionnaire sessions and interviews with potential employers. During the week Demeco met with five different NFL coaches and front office staff. The meetings and practices directed by San Francisco 49’ers coaches gave Demeco a chance to see how an NFL practice flows. “Having the opportunity to play in this game has taught me how the NFL practices, what coaches are looking for and gives me a little advantage going into the combines.” Legendary Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary’s tutoring was one advantage DeMeco had during Senior Bowl week. An advantage he hopes will elevate his play on the next level. “Having a coach with the resume he has in the league was definitely a blessing. He’s been there; he knows what we’re going through. He did a great job of giving us pointers that will help when we make the jump to the league.” With the long days and short nights of Mobile in the past DeMeco will take a few days off before returning to Arizona for workouts. Monday night DeMeco will join his Alabama teammates for an annual banquet in Birmingham. After that he’s off to Arizona on Tuesday where he returns to a six hour a day workout routine that will lead up to the NFL combines February 28.
