9 tackles, 8 solo, leads Texans in 20-3 season opening win

DeMeco and the Texans defense held Johnson to 42 yards. (Brett Coomer/Houston Chronicle)DeMeco led the Texans in tackles with 9 total, 8 of those solo, as Houston started the 2007 season with an impressive 20-3 win at home over the Kansas City Chiefs.

 

The Texans forced 4 turnovers, 3 alone by the defense and kept the Chiefs running game in check by allowing Larry Johnson only 42 yards on the ground. The lone special teams turnover was recorded by Charlie Anderson who recovered a Kansas City fumbled punt. Defensive End Mario Williams returned another fumble for a 38-yard touchdown, Dunta Robinson and Travis Johnson had interceptions.

 

With the win, the Texans are now 1-0 and have won 3 consecutive games dating back to Indianapolis and Cleveland the last two games of the 2006 season. Houston has now won 3 season openers during its six years of existence.

 

On Monday, Ryans and the Texans will begin preparations for a week 2 match-up with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
